AC for the iPhone runs in box mode on the iPad
AC for the iPhone will run on an iPad in a kind of box or scaled mode. It’s not perfect but some may like to use AC for the iPhone on their iPad after purchasing AC for the iPhone. Running iPhone apps on an iPad: Apple insists on this. Developers tend to hate it and think it’s pointless – except for apps with a simple UI.
Require iPadOS 17+ on the iPad
However there are some limitations:
- AC for the iPhone should be run with the iPad in portrait orientation. But users prefer to hold the iPad in landscape mode. But not all views in landscape are coded for the iPad in landscape orientation. Probably 98% are though.
- The charts you have created on the iPhone cannot be viewed on the iPad – except export/import via DropBox. This version has its own database and tables. AC for the iPad also has its own database so these can’t be shared except via dropbox.
- The original AstroConnexions (for the iPad) is designed for the iPad range and is much more suited to an iPad than the AC version for the iPad, IMO.

My take on AC for the iPhone on an iPad. If you have the iPad version I advise against using the iPad version of AC for the iPhone. Why? Mainly because AC on the iPhone iPad version uses its own database. The iPhone version uses its own database. Best sticking to iPad version and keep iPhone version separate and use the AC export/import utility which is available on all versions to get files from one version to another. But that’s just my 2 cents.
My long-term plan is to get all AC user files to sync. But for the time being each AC version has its own individual User database which has its advantages and disadvantages. To recap:
1. AC for iPad – has its own User database
2. AC for the iPhone on the iPad – has its own User database
3. AC for iPhone – has its own User database
3. AC for the Mac – has its own User database
Getting all your charts from an old iPad/iPhone to a new iPad/iPhone
1. Use the Batch export (requires Dropbox)
2. Copy your old AstroConnexionsUser.sqlite3 file to your new iPad/iPhone using Air Drop and File app utility app and overwrite the current AstroConnexionsUser.sqlite3 file.
