From AC ver 2.77.

This could be useful for fixing the problem of slightly differing lat/longs when comparing charts from different sources.

This procedure does not update AC’s lat and long tables when editing and saving the coordinates of the selected chart. It updates the chart table in AC’s database.

This procedure is for minor tweaks to the lat and long and not for location change. To change location tap Place and select another town or city when in Edit Chart.

Note the country and place names are not changed when using the Edit Lat Long routine.

Important: Always reload the chart by selecting the chart again from Your Charts. This will retrieve the new data from AC’s database.

To begin go to Edit Chart and long-press over the Lat Long place holder.

Tap the Latitude Picker button to tweak the latitude.

Caveats

Currently importing/exporting charts does not support including lat/long seconds. This will be fixed in a future AC version.

A fix for Charts that show 00” for Lat and long.

1. Go to Edit Chart
2. Tap on Place. Select the town or city. Tap on the record.
3. Tap Save.

Now the chart will show the Lat and long seconds.

Note that many people prefer to use Apple’s Map utility (built into AC) as it’s a bit quicker than tapping Country and Place. Many apps only include Apple’s map utility as it is easy to use and accurate. And they may have already used it in other apps so they are familiar with it. AC provides its own database for those that are used to doing this way, eg getting a Country from a table then getting a place from a table. It may be phased out in the future and be replaced by Apple’s Maps.

Use the map utility when there isn’t an entry in the Place table for the birth place you require. Note that an internet connection is required.

1. Enter the place/location, eg Clara, Ireland, eg New York, USA.
2. Press Return/Enter on the iPad’s keyboard
3. Tap Set Location – the place name and geographic coordinates are entered into AC’s place holders.
4. Tap Save (enter a Chart name if not already done so)
5. Done

What if the Place field is blank after using Apple Maps?

Occasionally Apple Maps returns a blank Place name. The chart cannot be saved unless one is provided.

To fix this problem:

iPhone Edit Chart – Edit Place field

Only use this option if you are sure that the Place field needs correcting. Improper use will result in an incorrect chart.

After you have saved the Chart it’s best to see if the Long and Lat (shown next to Use Maps button) returned by Apple Maps is correct – it may not be if a blank Place initially occurred.

It (probably) will be necessary to use Google Maps (not available in AC) to ascertain the correct Lat and Long coordinates – usually given in decimal degrees. 

Long-press over the AC Lat/Long field (next to the AC Use Map button) and enter the new Lat/Long coordinates obtained from Google Maps or elsewhere. See below for conversion web site if Lat and Long are in decimal degrees.
