What planets/points are available for Modern Aspect Interpretation?

Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune Pluto, Chiron, Asc, MC, Moon’s North Node.

What aspect values are available?

0, 60, 90, 120, 180 – conjunction, sextile, square, trine, opposition.

Note 45 and 135 are available vis settings.

AC has two types of Aspect interpretation

• Medieval eg Lilly, Leo (Leo is 20th century, but for convenience included in medieval category)

• Modern

Both can be accessed from the Speculum and long-press Aspect Table records

Access to the aspect interpretations

Medieval – via Aspect Table – long-press where + marker is shown. For Secondary Progressions and Solar Arc. Available for Speculum.

Modern –  interpretations are available via the Aspect Table and Speculum for many aspects. For single-wheel and bi-wheel. Most charts inc natal/radix. Uranian not available.

After the aspect table is populated note the + marker. This indicates an AC medieval aspect report is available for that particular aspect. Note that for modern aspect interpretations the + marker is not shown.

Aspects that do not have a corresponding interpretation are ignored.

Available for all charts. You Charts, Provided Charts. Single-wheel, bi-wheel. Natal, Transit, Sec. Progs., Solar Arcs, Returns etc.

User-defined aspect value. It can be any value from > = 0.00 degrees to < = 190.00 degrees, eg 4:25:00 or 127:56:03 or 86:00:00.

This could be useful for financial/crypto charts.

AC default user-defined aspect is 124.25 – easily changed, of course. Applies globally.

Assign a user aspect from the main Aspect Table. The last Aspect Table record tapped is used. This takes the degree of separation of two planets/points and automatically assigns it as a user aspect to the User Aspect picker. Or manually assign any value. The aspect between the two planets/points will be 00:00:00 degrees of separation and set to separating in the Aspect Table.

Note that setting the User Aspect to a standard aspect eg 90, 120 will result in a duplication of that aspect and the User Aspect (U) in the Aspect Table will not be displayed.

Procedures

Manually set the User-Defined Aspect.

1. Tap Displayed Aspects. Then tap the User-Defined Aspect button. (90:30:30 is initially displayed, being approx half-way)

2. Select an aspect size using the aspect size picker.

3. Tap Set to use the selected aspect size.

4. Tap Aspect Orbs and set the orb for the user aspect – single-wheel charts only.

Automatically set the User-Defined Aspect.

1. Select an aspect record from the main Aspect Table. See Al Pacino’s chart screenshot below.

2. Tap Displayed Aspects. Then tap the User-Defined Aspect button. The picker will display the last automatically user aspect or the default of setting of 90:30:30

3. Note the aspect size which has been automatically calculated and assigned to the aspect size picker. Change the aspect value if you wish.

4. Tap Set to use the calculated/selected aspect size.

5. Tap Aspect Orbs and set the orb for the user aspect – single-wheel charts only. You may have already done this.

Note that the aspect degree of separation in the Aspect Table should now be shown as 00:00:00 degrees. The screenshot below shows that the Saturn sextile Neptune aspect separation was initially selected and setup as a User Aspect.

To see a User Aspect in the Aspect Table

Allow all aspects for Trad + Outers must be selected in the Aspect Cusp & Aspect Table Settings. This allows all aspects including User aspects to be shown in the Aspect Table.

Show a User Aspect line in the chart (here it’s enabled). See below to see a user aspect line (a U indicates that it is a user aspect) shown in Al Pacino’s chart.

The main Aspect Table. Notice that Trad + Outers has been tapped. An applying Sun aspects the Asc with a separation of 00:43:28 degrees, the user aspect size is 100:00:00 degrees. The U indicates that the aspect is user-defined.

Available in long-press aspect tables too.

User Aspect in Aspect Table

Enable the use of the user-defined aspect. A tick next to an aspect indicates that it will be used by AC. Without this tick you will never see the aspect in use by AC. This is useful if a user aspect becomes superfluous or required – it can switched on/off easily.

Exact (or close) aspect date/time for Transits, Secondary Progressions, and Solar Arcs for bi-wheel charts.

For tropical, geocentric bi-wheel charts.

The time period searched is approx 10 years either side of the date the aspect is accessed. if the date of perfection cannot be found then it may well be outside of the 10 year parameter – a not found alert is presented. Not available for eclipse aspects.

Note that the first exact aspect found (within  0.01 degrees) is shown within the 20 year period. At that point the search ends.

Planetary aspects to the house cusps shown in the Aspect Table and Speculum

Natal, Transit, SA, Sec. Prog., SR, LR – single charts and bi-wheel charts. Tropical and Sidereal. Your Charts and Provided Charts.

• For Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars Jupiter Saturn (Trad.), Uranus, Neptune, Pluto. (Trad + Outers)
• Note: cusp aspects are not calculated for Midpoints, Eclipse, Antiscia and Fixed Stars and other objects.
• Aspects to the ASC (1st house cusp) and MC (10th house cusps) are handled as per usual.
• Aspects to the cusps are 0, 60, 90, 120. The conjunction (0) preferred to the opposition (180). Even if Allow all aspects is selected.
• Aspects to the cusps are shown as, for example as Planet/Point to c5, ie an Aspect to house cusp 5.

Problem Solved

The image below shows part of a secondary progressed chart. This looks like a Mercury opposition to the 10th cusp but it’s not shown in the Aspect Table. Why?

1. Aspects to Cusps does not include aspect to the 4th or 10th cusps. They are handled in the normal way like other aspect calculations.
2. The Cusp Aspect orb does not affect the normal operation of aspect calculation.
3. The default aspect orb for a sec. prog. bi-wheel is one degree as in the example above.

The solution is to increase the secondary progression orb to two degrees. The orb is shown top left. Now the aspect can be seen in the Aspect Table.

Start with (Aspect Table)

Tapping the Aspect Table icon brings-up the Aspect Table. This setting determines which aspects are initially shown.

Note that View #10 has its own settings.

Note that the Horary setting overrides the settings here. If the chart is a Horary chart.

• Var = variable aspect orbs as shown by AC’s Aspect Table and set by the Aspect Orbs table
• TVar  = variable aspects as shown by AC’s Aspect Table and set by using Traditional Planetary Orbs.

AC’s documentation refers to variable and fixed orbs. What does that mean? Variable orbs – this means that an orb for a square may be set at 8 degrees, whilst a sextile may be set at 4 degrees, etc. Used by Natal/Radix charts and other single-wheel charts. For bi-wheels, the setting is fixed often at 1 degree, so that a square orb is the same as a sextile orb. For secondary progressions and solar arc, etc. Traditional Planetary orbs are variable too.

Traditional Planetary Orb Indicator (TVar) – Aspects Table

Note that when non-traditional aspects are shown they use the Aspect Orbs table values (see above) that would normally be indicated by Var. If the Aspect Table shows a mixture of Traditional Planetary aspects (0, 60, 90, 120, 180) and other aspects such as 45/135 etc if would be more appropriate to show TVar + Var. however there isn’t enough rom to show Var and TVar. So only TVar is shown.

Note Moon trine Mars separation value. This value exceeds the usual 8 degrees value for a trine aspect because Traditional Planetary Orbs are in use here (indicated by the TVar) and the combined Moon/Mars separation (moiety) allowed is 10 degrees.

Notes

When using Traditional Planetary Orbs, aspects such as 18/30/45/135 etc use the standard variable orb values as shown when tapping Aspect Orbs button menu (see above).

Traditional Planetary Orbs only use these aspects:

0, 60, 90, 120, 180 (conjunction, sextile, trine opposition) and ignore the same aspect (and values) shown when tapping Aspect Orbs button menu (see above). But use the Aspect Orbs settings for minor aspects.

To stop using Traditional Planetary Orbs select None from the Settings view.

Traditional Planetary Orbs are often used in Horary astrology.

You choice of Traditional Planetary Orbs or the usual more modern aspects are saved by AC.

Traditional Planetary Orbs can only be used by single-wheel AC Chart Types Horary and Natal (radix) charts. But all single-wheel derived charts such as Transits Sec. Progressions, Returns etc will still use the Traditional Planetary Orbs settings as they retain their base chart type as Horary or Natal.

Note that by dynamically using a horary chart to advance time which changes it to a transit chart it continues to use Traditional Planetary Orbs.

Declinations are not affected.

The Aspect Hit View can be used as an Aspectarian. See the screenshot below. Notice the Performance view (not shown) is using Exact only.

An aspectarian is usually used to get the exact times of planetary aspects.

Why might this be useful? Aspects to radical positions from transiting/progressed/directed planets/points can be difficult to see – this helps.

Notes:

The aspect table shows those aspects that a planet can traditionally cast an aspect to. For example Venus can cast aspects to Jupiter, Saturn and so on. Neptune to Pluto only. However, the chart lines show all associated aspects as well. For example a filtered Asc will show an aspect to the Node in the aspect table but generally planets aspect points, so selecting the Asc to filter may not show any aspects in the Aspect table. The chart will.

Filtered Aspect settings and Filtered Selected Planets/Points are saved.

Please note: filtered aspects not available for the full landscape long-press Aspect Table view.

Caveat

Syncing Aspect Hits (by tapping an Aspect Hit date in the Aspect Hit table) is done by date only. The exact time an aspect occurs is not taken into account. It is possible to navigate to the exact time, if necessary, by using the time stepper, hours and minutes (next to the Time button).

Only exact hits are displayed.
